28mm Thirty Years war with Pike & Shotte
Easing in to the new year with a straightforward match up between Gustav Adolph and Wallenstein in the Thirty Years War, using Warlord Games’ Pike & Shotte rules.
The game became a bloody encounter with plenty of ebb and flow between the two armies. Both sides’ right wing of cavalry eventually overcame their opposite numbers, but were not able to then fall on the flank of the enemy infantry centres. Wallenstein led a final epic charge with the pike from his own regiment into weakened unit of Swedish infantry. However the Imperial generalissimo was not able to break through with the Swedish foot heroically holding on and refusing to break.
Exhausted, the two armies both withdrew as darkness fell and a draw was agreed after a fabulous afternoon’s gaming. A great start to the year’s gaming!
